Kochi: Ernakulam rural police have begun an investigation after a video of school students assaulting a classmate in Muvattupuzha surfaced on the social media.FIR registered by Muvattupuzha police on Monday lists four teenage boys as accused even as there are reports that over six individuals were part of the group that attacked the victim and recorded footage of the assault.The incident occurred at Valakom near Muvattupuzha. The students were Class X students at an aided school in Valakom, police said.According to police, the attack happened on July 17 in continuation of an argument between the complainant and the first accused the day before. On the day of the attack, the accused restrained the complainant and assaulted him on a pocket road near their school around 4.30pm.FIR says the 16-year-old victim was punched in his face and kicked in his abdomen. They also verbally abused him and threatened him.After the video began to circulate, police recorded the victim’s statement at his home on Sunday evening.Case has been registered under Sections 115 (2), 126 (2), 296 (b) and 3 (5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint, intentional insult and assault. Police said statements of the accused students will soon be recorded before initiating further action. School management has also reportedly initiated procedure for taking disciplinary action against the students.
