Hyderabad: In a major boost to scientific crime investigation, the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL) has inducted 57 highly qualified scientists, including 36 PhD holders, to strengthen DNA, cybercrime and narcotics investigations.
86% disposal rate at Hyderabad lab
The recruitment comes as the laboratory continues to handle one of the country’s highest forensic workloads, disposing of 18,647 cases with an 86 per cent disposal rate in 2025 despite limited manpower.
Appointment orders handed over
The appointment orders were presented to the newly recruited scientific personnel by the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand, IPS, at the TGFSL headquarters in Hyderabad.
The induction is expected to significantly enhance the laboratory’s scientific capabilities and improve the speed and quality of forensic support provided to investigating agencies.
FSL handling one of India’s highest workloads
Welcoming the recruits, Principal Secretary, Home Department and Director, TGFSL, Shikha Goel, IPS, said the laboratory has consistently maintained an impressive disposal rate despite a shortage of scientific staff.
She noted that each forensic expert at TGFSL handles one of the highest caseloads in the country, with the laboratory examining priority and time-bound cases within stipulated timelines to ensure timely support for criminal investigations.
Experts to strengthen key forensic divisions
Shikha Goel said the laboratory has advanced capabilities in DNA analysis, computer forensics, narcotics, toxicology and several other forensic disciplines. With a steady rise in digital evidence and narcotics-related offences, TGFSL has been continuously upgrading its technology, infrastructure and scientific expertise.
The newly inducted batch comprises 36 PhD holders, 12 MSc graduates, six MTech graduates and three MCA graduates, whose expertise is expected to strengthen forensic examination across specialised divisions.
DGP calls for accuracy and professionalism
Addressing the recruits, the DGP underlined the increasing importance of scientific evidence under the new criminal laws and urged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism while examining evidence.
He stressed that forensic reports play a crucial role in ensuring fair and speedy justice, particularly in sensitive and high-profile cases.
The DGP also encouraged the scientists to make full use of advanced forensic facilities and continuous training opportunities to enhance their professional skills.
DGP assures support to upgrade infrastructure
Appreciating TGFSL’s performance despite manpower constraints, the DGP expressed confidence that the induction of the new scientists would further improve the laboratory’s efficiency. He assured full support for strengthening manpower, upgrading infrastructure, procuring advanced forensic equipment and meeting other operational requirements.
National recognition
TGFSL is NABL-accredited and has been notified as a Government Examiner of Electronic Evidence under Section 79A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Equipped with state-of-the-art forensic technology, the laboratory plays a key role in providing scientific evidence for criminal investigations across Telangana.
Officials said the induction of the 57 scientific personnel marks another significant step towards enhancing Telangana’s forensic capabilities and ensuring faster, technology-driven and evidence-based justice.
