Temporary hotline set for urgent clinical questions amidst Kettering Health IT disruption | #ransomware | #cybercrime

MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WKEF) — On May 20, 2025, Kettering Health experienced an unanticipated system-wide technology outage and daily updates will begin during Memorial Day Weekend.

In a new statement released by the CEO of the healthcare network, Mike Gentry, Friday, it was said that the recent cybersecurity event is an abnormal occurrence.

“While planned maintenance and updates are routine and occur on an ongoing basis, fortunately, an event of this type has been rare for Kettering Health,” Gentry said. “Our team members are diligently following downtime processes and procedures.”

As staff work on resolving the issue, Gentry said patient appointments where Kettering Health IT applications are needed as part of care plans will be rescheduled.

The network has set up a temporary phone line for patients with urgent clinical questions. That number is (937) 600-6879. This line is not for updates on the cyber security incident or scheduling/non-urgent appointment requests.

Kettering Health also said all scheduled appointments should be kept, those with surgeries should have heard from the hospital directly, and if a current patient needs a refill, bring the empty prescription bottle to a Kettering Health location.

Gentry explained that these types of events in healthcare usually take 10 to 20 days to resolve.

While the issues are being tended to, the emergency departments, hospitals and clinics will remain open to provide care.

The network of Greater Dayton and northern Cincinnati was thanked, particularly Dayton Children’s Hospital and Premier Health, as they partnered with Kettering Health to care for the community.
