White T-shirts turn children’s stories into a quiet but powerful invitation to notice what adults may overlook every day.
An exhibition titled “Recognize. Respond.”, dedicated to children’s safety and preventing violence, has opened at Ukrainian House in Ternopil. It was created by the Center for Child Dignity at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
As reported by the online media outlet Ukrinform.
At its heart is an art installation of white T-shirts depicting different stories and situations from children’s lives. Visitors can also create their own drawings using paper T-shirt templates and colored pencils provided nearby.
We want children to have a happy childhood. But adults are not always able to make that happen. This exhibition is meant to make us stop and help us look anew at issues that are often left unspoken and sometimes carry a sense of shame.
– Teodor Martyniuk
Christina Shabat, head of the Center for Child Dignity, stressed how important it is to notice those who may need help, pause, and offer support. Ulyana Krekhovets, the artist who created the T-shirt illustrations, explained that the project uses art to address important and challenging social issues.
Since 2024, more than 35,000 people in seven countries have seen the exhibition: Ukraine, Czechia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, and Slovakia. The exhibition will run in Ternopil for two weeks.
