TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) — Investigators from the Terre Haute Police Department joined Indiana State Police’s “Internet Crimes Against Children” Task Force in Indianapolis for a press conference on Tuesday, May 6. The event reviewed “Safe Online Summer,” an initiative aimed at catching child predators through April.
Detective Josh Loudermilk from the Terre Haute Police Department emphasized that the press conference was not only for recognition but also as a warning to offenders. “Commit crimes against children, and this dedicated team of investigators will find you, investigate you, and put you behind bars,” Loudermilk said.
During April, the “Safe Online Summer” operation saw investigators from across Indiana working with the ICAC Task Force and local agencies. They received 1,782 cyber tips, which are anonymous and guide investigations.
The Terre Haute Police Department played a key role, starting 21 investigations that led to multiple arrests. Loudermilk highlighted the importance of these arrests. “It is important to remember that these arrests are not just numbers, they represent lives protected and dangers removed from our streets and screens, particularly before our children embark on summer break,” Loudermilk said.
Loudermilk stressed that the efforts will continue. “Let us be clear. This is not the end, but a continuation of our unwavering commitment to child safety. We will be relentless in our unwavering pursuit of those who wish to harm children,” he said.
