Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) said on Saturday that it had arrested 228 individuals including 27 women for involvement in cybercrime offences across the country during the period from January 1 to July 31.
Bureau director Shikha Goel said the arrests were carried out across states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. “The arrested accused were connected to 1,313 cybercrime cases including 189 cases in Telangana, involving a total fraud amount of 92 crores,” Goel said.
The accused were found to be involved in fake call centres (66), investment and job frauds (77), child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSEAM) cases (15), cyber slavery modules (18), and online trading frauds (13), among others such as SIM box operations, digital arrest scams, impersonation, and identity theft.
Goel added that among the arrested, 93 were from Telangana, followed by 42 from Nagaland, 20 from Gujarat, 17 from Andhra Pradesh, and others from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (6 each), Manipur, Assam, Maharashtra and Odisha (5 each), Karnataka and Bihar (3 each), Meghalaya (2) and one each from Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
The majority of the accused, numbering 149, were in the 18-30 age group. They come from varied socio-economic backgrounds, including private employees, students, bank and software professionals. Educationally, there were 49 graduates, 18 engineers, and a law graduate.
Three major operations were conducted in the period. In February, a fake call centre at Patrikanagar, Hitec City, was busted and 63 people mostly from Gujarat and the Northeast, arreseted for targeting NRIs and US citizens. In May, a 10-day operation in Surat led to the arrest of 20 cyber fraudsters linked to 60 Telangana cases and 515 across India. In June, the Child Protection Unit (CPU) arrested 15 habitual offenders in connection with 57 CSEAM-related cyber tipline complaints.
Director Goel stated that the crackdown has led to a 13 per cent decline in cybercrime cases in Telangana in the first half of 2025.
Horse Racing Betting Racket Busted, 4 Held

Hyderabad: Police busted an illegal racket betting on horse racing with the arrest of four persons. The operation by the Jawaharnagar police and Malkajgiri special operations team led to the seizure of `2 lakh in cash and freezing of two bank accounts containing `2.47 lakh.
Police said the key accused was Thokala Nagesh of Guntur, residing in Dammaiguda and a former employee of a US-based information technology MNC in Chennai. Nagesh was introduced to betting on the races during his stay in Chennai. After relocating to Hyderabad in 2020 due to health and financial issues, he partnered with Rajesh Kumar from Malakpet and Venkat Chowdary from Vijayawada and expanded the betting operations.
Nagesh eventually began operating independently and organised betting through a WhatsApp group which had 105 members across India, including 20 from Hyderabad.
Police found transactions worth about `8 crore in the bank accounts of the accused. The others arrested were Venkat Chowdary, Rajesh Babu, and D. Suni.
HYDRAA Denies of Demolishing Gurduwara Shed at Ameerpet

Hyderabad: HYDRAA refuted claims that it had demolished a shed erected by the gurudwara at Ameerpet for allegedly encroaching on a drain line. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath in a statement said the agency was not involved in the demolition.
“HYDRAA has not undertaken any demolitions in Ameerpet, and has not tried to do anything”, Ranganath said.
The GHMC, on July 30, issued notice to the Gurudwara Saheb in Ameerpet to remove the tin shed they had raised allegedly by encroaching over the drain line. The GHMC said it wuold remove the shed the gurudwara management failed to do so in a day.
The gurudwara committee said that it had not encroached on the land, and said that the previous BRS government minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav had taken an initiative to create a parking lot. The committee said that it was using the shed to park the gurudwara’s Palki vehicle, and no other activities take place on the land.
On Saturday, GHMC authorities went to the spot to remove the shed, but were stopped by members of the gurudwara. They protested the move, and said the government is not taking their religion into consideration.
