When did you open the business?
NP was established in 2004 by our director, Dean Ross, and his business partner at the time, Brian Cosgrove.
Has it always been in the same location?
We have always been in Widnes.
We were originally located at the Waterloo Centre in West Bank, but moved to Halton House in 2010.
Are you local to the area? Did you grow up here?
I grew up in Runcorn myself, and all of our staff are based locally.
Tell me a bit about your business
NP are a managed services provider, and we support local small businesses with IT and communications services.
We have nine members of staff, many of whom joined us as apprentices.
What do you do? What services do you provide?
Our core service is IT support.
Our team of engineers helps clients manage both their physical IT networks and any cloud services, such as Microsoft 365.
We are a Microsoft partner and can also supply a wide range of hardware.
As well as IT, we can also help with the supply and management of business mobiles, VOIP phone systems, and business broadband.
Why did you decide to open your own business?
Dean and Brian both had backgrounds in IT and networking, and they saw a gap in the market for a customer service-focused IT services business.
What’s your business background?
I joined NP as an apprentice back in 2015, so it was my first ‘proper’ job!

Since then, I’ve worked in a number of customer-facing roles here.
Why this type of business?
Small businesses’ IT needs have evolved so much since 2004, particularly with the need for remote working and cloud-based software.
Many people are more IT savvy than they were in 2004, but we strongly believe that the service we offer is valuable for small businesses that wouldn’t be able to justify an internal IT department.
What makes your business different from others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?
Most of our customers know our engineers by name.
We pride ourselves on putting relationships first and not making IT support a faceless and clinical process.
Why do loyal customers return to your business?
I hope it is because we take away some of the stress associated with IT!
What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your business?
We have a renewed focus on IT security, given the environment at the moment for businesses, and we have recently launched our new NP Secure product.
