AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One summer camp hosted a competition among students with a course they designed.

The fourth annual Viceroy Kids Summer Camp helped students learn cybersecurity, programming and more at Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.

Officials say this helps inspire students and prepare them for the cybersecurity field.

“So, there are a lot of kids who didn’t realize that there were careers or jobs available in this area. They really like working with programming with little robot cars and microcontrollers that they program using MakeCode, block code, with a program using Python, so they get a lot of it,” said Michael Nowatkowski, Viceroy.

“There’s over 400,000 jobs that are vacant in cybersecurity right now, so we are trying to get more people interested in it earlier in their lives so that when they get to college, they may be interested in degrees that would help them get careers in cybersecurity,” said Nowatkowski.
