Tioga County Public Health is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Floyd Hooker Foundation.
The money will support two childhood injury-prevention initiatives; the Child Passenger Safety Program and the Helmet First, Ride Second Bicycle Helmet Program. More specifically, the money will help purchase child safety seats and bike helmets to support the needs of these programs.
The Child Passenger Safety Seat Program helps parents and guardians with learning about child safety seats and the proper installation in a vehicle. In 2025, approximately 75 percent of inspected seats were found to be done wrong.
The new helmet program helps provide bike helmet education, fittings, and helmets to children ages 14 and under. All this helps reduce preventable injuries and promote safe riding habits.
