Trump claims 220M U.S. voter files hacked by China: Here’s the 8 .pdfs | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

President Trump, in his address to the nation, accused China of launching a massive voter hack and ultimately fraudulently obtaining 220 million U.S. voter files.

The president posted a link to documents on the White House website, which he says prove his charges.

The White House hacking page states “a series of previously-classified U.S. Intelligence Community Assessments and other reports” show foreign interference related to the 2020 and 2018 elections.

“As one assessment states: ‘We judge that U.S. adversaries, including at a minimum Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, as well as non-state groups, have the capability to compromise U.S. election infrastructure.’

“The documents also state: ‘We assess that centralized election-related data repositories, such as voter registration databases, pollbooks, and official election websites, are most vulnerable to exploitation, and adversaries could use access to these systems to disrupt election processes.’

“Tonight, we are releasing all of these findings, spanning from January 2020 to June 2026. This is a cyber threat aimed at the very heart of our democracy,” the release reads in part.

The hack obtained names, addresses, party affiliations, and Social Security numbers.

The president started his speech on an upbeat note saying the U.S. is better off and hinted to the Iran war nearing a conclusion. But the night quickly pivoted to election fraud investigations.

“America is back and doing really well, but we still have a major challenge that must be urgently addressed, because no country can be great without fair and honest elections,” he said.

He said all Americans should be assured their elections are free of cheating and interference.

“Unfortunately, the system we have today falls catastrophically short of that standard,” Trump said, advocating for a strict voter ID bill in Congress.

Trump also called out the big media outlets for not carrying his Thursday night address live and accused them of being “part of a plot.”

The White House hacking release includes eight .pdf files that show documents and reports on the hacking suspicions. Those include Venezuela’s voting manipulation capabilities; a CIA memo on China’s voting hacking that was feared to be a “prelude to election espionage.”

The other documents included an Electron Report Executive Summary, a declassified memo to the president from the White House counsel, a foreign threat assessment, and what China was up to.

“Trump is again trying to drum up baseless election conspiracies ahead of the November elections,” New Jersey Democratic Sen. Andy Kim said in a post on X. “Americans are tired of endless war, skyrocketing gas prices, and a president that isn’t looking out for them. Voters will make their voices heard, whether Trump wants them to or not.”

The White House warning adds that “centralized election-related data repositories, such as voter registration databases, pollbooks, and official election websites, are most vulnerable to exploitation.”

With foreign actors out to “disrupt election processes.” He said states are being informed of possible hacking.

“Tonight,” Trump added, “we are releasing all of these findings, spanning from January 2020 to June 2026. This is a cyber threat aimed at the very heart of our democracy.”
