A newly established ransomware gang appears to have hacked Trump Mobile, the cell phone company launched by members of President Donald Trump’s family, resulting in the exposure of personal data for 3,615 customers.
No member of the Trump family was among the customers whose data was breached, a review by Straight Arrow shows. However, the leak includes personal details about Eric Brunnett, vice president and chief information officer for the Trump Organization. Brunnett’s LinkedIn profile says he oversees “all Information Technology and Information Security for all aspects of the Trump Organization.”

The leak is the latest embarrassment for Trump Mobile, announced last year by Trump’s sons Eric and Don Jr. shortly after Trump returned to the White House. As Straight Arrow reported last year, Trump Mobile quietly removed promotional language guaranteeing its devices would be made in the U.S. And in May, Straight Arrow reported that while 590,000 people had paid $100 deposits for the phones, Trump Mobile had not delivered the devices after as much as 11 months. The company began distributing the phones shortly afterward.
The hack was apparently carried out by a cybercrime group known as BYOD, which shared the data to its dark web leak site last week alongside a statement detailing the purported breach.
“Trump mobile was informed they had been breached, they then replied with ‘We have no team to handle this’ and that anyone who hacks them are a terrorist,” the group wrote. “Well unfortunately for them, all 3615 customers and their PII, alongside telecom details are now up for grabs. Feel free to take a gander at it yourself, don’t be shy, we (and them) certainly aren’t stopping you.”
Analysis of the data by Straight Arrow found information such as first and last names, email addresses, telephone numbers, home addresses and details on orders with the company.
In a phone call with Straight Arrow, one such customer, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that he had sent the company a $100 deposit last year in an attempt to purchase Trump Mobile’s flagship mobile phone, the T1, but never received a device.
Other entries detail purchases of mobile data plans from Trump Mobile, such as “30 Day Unlimited Talk Text Data.” Several other individuals contacted by Straight Arrow, who confirmed that the exposed personal data was accurate, denied being customers before hanging up.
Trump Mobile did not immediately respond to an email from Straight Arrow seeking comment.
A representative for BYOD said that the group gained access after infecting an employee with the Florida-based company Liberty Mobile with malware. Trump Mobile is owned by T1 Mobile, which uses a licensed brand from The Trump Organization.
The BYOD representative also claimed to still have access to Trump Mobile’s backend dashboard and provided Straight Arrow with a screenshot showing personal data on a customer.

Another employee of The Trump Organization listed in the data, Nicholas Hayes, confirmed to Straight Arrow over the phone that he had previously used Trump Mobile but no longer did so.
According to the Florida Bar, Hayes is a lawyer for the Trump Organization, based in Florida.
