An attentive mother led to the arrest of an alleged child predator after she noticed suspicious activity on her child’s social media account.

Eric Prater, 50, of Red Bay, is charged with three counts of electronic solicitation of a child.

Prater is accused of sending a Facebook friend request to a Tuscaloosa County girl under the age of 16 in January. The child’s mother intercepted the request and began messaging Prater. She contacted authorities after the messages began to concern her.

Tuscaloosa County investigators took over the chat and conducted an undercover operation.

According to court documents, Prater instructed the girl to have sex with multiple people, including a married man.

Prater was arrested on May 9 and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
