A new official tradition recognizes the specialists whose work keeps Ukraine’s military connected, coordinated and protected under constant battlefield pressure.
On August 8, Ukraine is officially celebrating the Day of the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity for the first time.
On August 6, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree establishing August 8 as the annual Day of the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Until now, August 8 had officially been observed as Signal Corps Day. On this day in 1920, training for military signal specialists began in Kyiv at the Second Kyiv Military Engineering Courses, based at the former Konstantinovsky Junker Military School.
In 2020, as part of the reform of the Armed Forces in accordance with NATO standards, the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established. From January 1, 2022, the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity Forces gained the status of a separate branch of the military. Since then, within the Armed Forces themselves, the professional holiday had effectively been observed as the Day of the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity, and the presidential decree formalized this name.
Yevhenii Khmara, Acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine, congratulated signal corps soldiers and cybersecurity specialists on their professional holiday.
In a high-tech war, communications are of critical importance. Signal corps soldiers and cybersecurity specialists ensure what a modern army cannot function without, both at the front and in the rear. Command and control of the military, coordination between units, and the rapid exchange of data all depend on stable, secure communications.

Your work determines whether decisions on the battlefield will be made in time – and whether lives will be saved. Your service often goes unnoticed, but it plays a vital role in our resilience every day. Under the pressure of electronic warfare systems and enemy strikes, you maintain communications where they are needed most.
