Claud McClain III (Clinton County Sheriff)

A Cameron man remains jailed without bond after being charged in Clinton County following what authorities described as a child predator operation conducted on June 28.

Online court records show 53-year-old Claud Clinton McClain has been charged with the felony offenses of enticement or attempted enticement of a child and patronizing prostitution. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of furnishing or attempting to furnish pornographic material to a minor.

According to a probable cause statement filed by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, McClain allegedly communicated through text messages with an undercover detective posing as a 15-year-old girl. Investigators allege the conversations led to an agreement to meet at Casey’s Gas Station in Cameron, where McClain allegedly agreed to pay $100 in exchange for oral sex.

Authorities reported McClain was arrested after arriving at the meeting location. According to investigators, he was advised of his Miranda rights, agreed to speak with detectives, and consented to a search of his iPhone.

The probable cause statement alleges text messages recovered from the phone showed McClain acknowledged he believed he was communicating with a 15-year-old girl he had contacted through the website skipthegames.com. Investigators allege the conversations included discussions of sexual acts, payment, and transportation arrangements. Authorities also allege McClain sent nude photographs of another adult female during the exchanges.

Investigators reported they recovered a $100 bill from McClain’s wallet, which they allege he identified as payment for the planned encounter. The probable cause statement also alleges officers found adult sexual devices inside his vehicle that investigators say he intended to use during the meeting.

According to investigators, McClain told detectives he knew his actions were wrong and expressed regret following his arrest.

Court records indicate McClain entered a not guilty plea on June 30. The court denied a request to modify his bond and ordered that he remain held without bond while the case is pending.

A bond appearance hearing is scheduled for July 8 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Teresa Lynn Christian-Bingham in the Associate Courtroom of the Clinton County Courthouse in Plattsburg.
