Federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities gathered at the Oxford Police Department on Monday afternoon to announce the completion of “Operation Muddy Waters,” a two-week statewide undercover sting targeting child predators.

The joint effort—which included the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Marshals Service, and multiple county sheriff’s departments—resulted in the arrest of 69 suspects and the seizure of numerous electronic devices following the execution of dozens of search warrants.

Officials noted that many of those apprehended were individuals in positions of public trust, and the majority had prior child sex offense records.

The suspects face various charges, including sexual exploitation, solicitation, sex offender registry violations, and distribution of child pornography. While the operation officially concluded last week, authorities stated that many cases originating from the sweep remain under active investigation, and none of the suspects’ identities have been publicly released at this time.
