Mr. Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, stated: “The Japanese Government’s support through UNESCO to implement this project in Nghe An is deeply practical, timely, and humane. This is not merely a technical assistance project, but also an opportunity for Nghe An to gain access to Japan’s advanced expertise in disaster risk management, the application of science and technology in early warning systems, and the creation of safe learning environments; while simultaneously contributing to realizing our goals of sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and protecting people’s lives.”
Mr Ito Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Viet Nam, said: “Japan has long lived with natural disasters and has developed extensive experience in disaster risk reduction, early warning systems and disaster preparedness. Through this project, we are pleased to share these experiences with Viet Nam in partnership with UNESCO and Nghe An Province. By strengthening early warning systems, enhancing local disaster risk management and improving school safety, we hope this project will help protect lives and livelihoods and contribute to building more resilient communities for the future.”
Funded by the Government of Japan, the project is expected to directly benefit approximately 15,000 people. This includes institutions and officials working in forecasting, early warning and disaster risk management, as well as community members, students, teachers, school leaders and local authorities. The results, tools and lessons generated through implementation in Nghe An will provide practical references for other provinces and for action at the national level.
