University Hospitals says MyChart now accessible after cybersecurity incident | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

CLEVELAND — University Hospitals announced Saturday evening the return of MyChart accessibility for patients following a cybersecurity incident in late October.

“This is an important milestone,” said Ansley Kelm, UH public and media relations manager. “For many of our patients and the public at large, the availability of MyChart is the sign that UH has recovered from the cybersecurity incident.”

The cybersecurity incident occurred near the end of October. UH quickly disconnected its systems from the internet after unusual activity was detected on its servers, Kelm told Ashland Source in October.

UH investigated the incident with consultation from outside experts and through communication with law enforcement.

Local UH locations include Ashland, Loudonville and Mansfield.

The restored access to MyChart — an online patient portal — will resume the ease for UH professionals to communicate with patients, return test results and provide its expected level of care, the hospital system’s release said.

Some MyChart features may not be fully functional at this time, Kelm said. Users may see a slight delay in new test results and other information as MyChart data is reconciled and updated.

“We are working to resolve those issues as soon as possible,” she said. “We are incredibly grateful for the patience of the people and community we serve while we have worked through this cybersecurity incident.

“We are also humbled by the dedication of so many caregivers across the organization — both those who have worked to continue to serve and treat our patients and those who have worked to help restore our services.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and are working to get back to being fully restored.”
