CASPER, Wyo. — Hilltop Bank has reopened select offices for limited transactions and launched dedicated phone lines as officials continue working through a multi-day service outage caused by a cybersecurity breach.
That was the word from the bank in a Thursday morning social media post stating that limited transactions can now be processed at the main office, downtown office, MotorBank, Glenrock office and Cheyenne downtown office.
According to Hilltop Bank and True Companies spokesperson Bill Salvin, customers are able to cash Hilltop-originated checks, get limited cash back on non-Hilltop-originated checks and make withdrawals and deposits.
To field customer inquiries while main systems remain down, the bank opened a primary call center at 307-265-2740. Trust and Wealth Management clients are requested to direct their calls to 307-577-3305.
The branch reopenings follow limited operations on Tuesday and a full closure on Wednesday, triggered when staff first detected technical degradation across the IT infrastructure on Sept. 8. Shortly after midnight Wednesday, officials confirmed the disruption stemmed from a cybersecurity incident.
In response to the breach, administrators took all internal banking networks offline as a precautionary measure to isolate the environment and protect customer data. The shutdown temporarily disabled online banking, mobile banking and telephone customer service systems.
Salvin said maintenance efforts are expected to extend over several days, with no date expected for full reopening.
“We absolutely appreciate our customers’ patience and forbearance as we work through this,” he said.
CORRECTION: The only day Hilltop was fully closed due to the incident was Wednesday.
