MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – USA Health held a Child Safety Day at the National Maritime Museum on Saturday as schools let out for the summer.
Water safety education was among the topics highlighted. Free life jackets were given out at the event.
Safety on electric bikes and scooters was also addressed.
“So for summer safety, we definitely need to always wear helmets — year-round really, but we see a lot of bike accidents with electric bikes and scooters,” said Courtney Thompson, pediatric outreach education coordinator for USA Health. “And the brain is like a Jell-O mold and can break very easily. So we need to be very mindful of that.”
USA Health officials said an important part of Child Safety Day is providing parents and caregivers with tools and information to help protect children and promote healthy habits.
