Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has proposed establishing a regular format for cooperation among heads of Interior Ministry units responsible for combating cybercrime in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The initiative was unanimously supported by participants of a meeting of the Council of Interior Ministers of the CIS member states held in Dushanbe.

Uzbekistan’s delegation at the meeting on 2 October was headed by Interior Minister Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov.

During the meeting, the heads of the delegations were received by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon.

The sides discussed improving cooperation in countering terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime, as well as cooperation in cybersecurity, combating illegal migration and ensuring tourist safety.

Emomali Rahmon noted the development of cooperation among CIS states, including between law enforcement agencies, and stressed the need to further strengthen regional solidarity and coordinate joint approaches.

The meeting of the Council of Interior Ministers was attended by the heads of the Interior Ministries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Representatives of the CIS Bureau for Coordination of the Fight Against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Crimes, the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center also attended the meeting.

Participants reviewed priority areas of multilateral and bilateral cooperation, as well as implementation of the Interstate Programme of Joint Measures to Combat Crime for 2029–2033.

A number of documents were signed following the meeting. They provide for the development of cooperation among law enforcement agencies in electronic information exchange, the exchange of genomic data for combating crime, countering illegal migration and the interstate search for individuals.

Particular attention was paid to combating transnational crimes committed through the use of information and communication technologies.

Uzbekistan’s initiative to organize meetings of the heads of CIS Interior Ministry units responsible for combating cybercrime was unanimously approved and signed by members of the Council.

The proposed format is aimed at developing direct interaction among the heads of operational units, taking into account the cross-border nature of cybercrime and reducing bureaucratic procedures.

Regular meetings are expected to facilitate the exchange of experience, joint analysis of information technology threats and the development of measures to counter transnational crime in cyberspace.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue institutional cooperation and implement joint projects in combating crime.
