Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old private firm employee from Vadaj was allegedly duped of Rs 49.7 lakh after fraudsters first got him to answer a video call in which a woman appeared nude and then threatened to circulate the recording.The accused allegedly posed as officials from the Delhi Cyber Crime Branch and YouTube, warning him of arrest, imprisonment, and damage to his career. A complaint has been filed with cybercrime police.On Sept 3, he received a WhatsApp video call. According to the complaint, when he saw a nude woman, he disconnected the call and blocked the number. Soon after, he received another call, during which he was threatened with damage to his reputation unless he transferred money to a bank account.He was subsequently sent a video, which he deleted. He did not make any payment at that stage.On Sept 27, the fraudsters called him again. One of them introduced himself as an officer from the Delhi cybercrime branch and claimed that police action would be initiated against him over the explicit video. The caller told him that the offence carried a seven-year jail term.The caller then allegedly connected him with a person posing as a YouTube official. The purported official claimed that two explicit videos featuring him had been uploaded and demanded Rs 71,250 to have them deleted.Fearing arrest and damage to his career, he transferred the money. The fraudsters then allegedly continued to demand money, threatening to circulate the videos and initiate police action if he failed to pay.Over several transactions, the victim transferred Rs 49.7 lakh to different bank accounts. After realising he had been trapped, he approached the cybercrime police.Police are trying to trace the accounts to which the money was transferred and identify the callers and their associates.
