City officials are investigating a cybersecurity incident that allowed unauthorized individuals to send an email through the city’s email management platform, according to a statement released by Vallejo officials on Friday.
The unauthorized message, which referenced a well-known jewelry company, was distributed through the city’s Constant Contact account after what officials described as a malicious hacking incident.
The city’s Information Technology Department is investigating how the breach occurred and evaluating its overall impact, city officials said.
City officials further said there is currently no indication that personal information stored within the platform was compromised or that the incident poses a risk to the public.
Additionally, Vallejo officials said they are taking steps to secure the system and protect information maintained on the platform.
Residents who received the suspicious email are advised to delete it. No further action is required at this time, according to the city.
Officials said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
