CORRECTION: After initially stating a school resource officer died from his injuries, Philly police now say the officer is in critical condition.
Philadelphia police have released surveillance video of the suspect in a shooting of a school safety officer with the hopes it will lead to the arrest of the culprit.
On the early morning hours of Sunday, June 29, a 68-year-old Philadelphia school safety officer and retired police officer was shot multiple times at the 300 block of North Christopher Columbus Boulevard as he tried to intervene during a suspected road rage incident.
The suspected shooter was driving a white 2017-2019 Kia Sportage and is believed to have a bowl type haircut, police said.
The suspect was also wearing a red or orange shirt at the time, police said.
The victim, who is still in critical condition, is a retired Philadelphia police officer who was working overnight at Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, which is operating as a shelter for residents who were impacted by a recent apartment fire.
The unidentified man served in the Philadelphia Police Department for 28 years and worked for the school district for another 20 years, officials said.
