Chennai: Complainants visiting south Chennai cybercrime police station have urged the authorities to shift the facility from the city airport premises, preferably to Guindy or St Thomas Mount. They said each time they visit the station, they are forced to pay airport toll and parking charges.The south Chennai cybercrime police station functions alongside the airport police station and the office of the assistant commissioner of police within the airport premises. However, it receives a significantly high number of visitors every day.The station handles cases from police jurisdictions across south Chennai, including Alandur, Adambakkam, Meenambakkam, Mylapore, Mandaveli, Adyar, Mambalam, Vadapalani, Virugambakkam, Ashok Nagar, Velachery and Madipakkam. Visitors said inquiries often lasted three to four hours, forcing them to keep their vehicles inside the airport complex and incur parking charges.They also flagged a lack of photocopying or printing facilities within the airport complex. As a result, complainants had to travel to nearby localities such as Pallavaram, Meenambakkam, Alandur or Guindy to obtain copies of documents. They said they had to pay airport toll and parking charges again when re-entering the premises.Lawyers and complainants said that it was reasonable to take a parking fee from airport users, but asked why those visiting a police station to pursue legal matters were subjected to the same. They urged airport authorities to exempt vehicles visiting the police station from toll and parking fees.They appealed to the police department to relocate the cybercrime police station to the Guindy police campus or the joint commissioner’s office at St Thomas Mount, saying that its earlier location at Guindy had been more accessible and convenient for the public.
