MOUNT HOPE, Ala. (WHNT) — West Lawrence Water confirmed a recent security breach targeting both its information technology systems and its physical facility at one of its operational sites.
West Lawrence Water said it immediately isolated the affected systems, engaged third-party cybersecurity and law enforcement partners, and secured the impacted facility.
There was no water service interruption, and the company says there is currently no indication that water quality or safety of the public water supply has been affected.
“The safety and reliability of the water we deliver to our community remains our top priority,” said interim general manager Elizabeth Spruell. “We are taking this incident extremely seriously, working around the clock with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to fully understand what happened, secure our systems and facilities, and protect the customers and employees who depend on us.”
West Lawrence Water says federal, state and local authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the scope and origin of multiple incidents. Updates are expected as the investigation continues.
Any customers or employees whose personal information may have been affected will be notified directly.
