After 53 days since Luís Neves left the direction of the Judiciary Police (PJ), the new national director takes office this Thursday, April 16th. Carlos Cabreiro will be sworn in by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, in a ceremony scheduled for 6:30 pm, at the Ministry of Justice.
Cabreiro’s name, until then director of the National Unit to Combat Cybercrime and Technological Crime (UNC3T), became known on March 31st. The DN found that the name chosen by the Government was well received in the Judiciary.
Carlos Manuel Antão Cabreiro, whose mandate will be three years, He has been in the Judiciary for over 30 years and, at 59, has reached the highest position within this security force. The majority of a police officer’s career is linked to computer and economic crime.
It was the action of the unit commanded by Cabreiro that arrested hacker Rui Pinto, creator of Football Leaks, where he reported several situations related to football, particularly in Portugal and involving Benfica. Another case that involved the UNC3T was the arrest of Paulo Abreu dos Santos, lawyer and former assistant to the former Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro, accused of hundreds of crimes of child pornography and two of sexual abuse of minors.
