Wizz, the online social chat app that matches kids based on their age group, says it puts safety at the heart of its platform to prevent bad things from happening to kids. But even for an app that concentrates its efforts on providing age-appropriate content and contacts, the shifting regulatory landscape can be a daunting place to go it alone.

As such, Wizz has joined the Tech Coalition, which “unites the global tech industry to protect children from online sexual abuse.” It becomes one of just three European companies in the Coalition, which has over 60 members, including Meta, Google and Microsoft, alongside smaller enterprises.

In this episode of the Biometric Update Podcast, Alexandro Ryabova of Wizz explains how the company works with Yoti for age assurance, and discusses why age appropriate experiences are central to its model. She’s joined by Sean Litton, CEO of the Tech Coalition, who brings the industry perspective on the quest to keep the internet safe for kids.

Tech Coalition works to help its members deploy online safety and age assurance products that fit their risk profile. “It always starts with a risk assessment,” Litton says. “And then developing the mitigations to meet those risks.” He says overall, “we’re seeing a tremendous increase both in interest in child safety among industry, and also in terms of industry’s progress on these issues, on deployment of the technology and in policy.”
