WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – On Friday, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office announced the PAUSE Program, a new initiative that intends to protect local senior citizens from scams.
Currently, ConfirmOk calls seniors who live alone daily to confirm their well-being. The PAUSE Program is an expansion of that effort that provides seniors with a sleeve for their debit card that has a reminder to “stop, pause and think before giving out debit card or financial information.” The sleeve also has the ConfirmOk phone number and an area to write the contact information of a trusted person to contact.
“We want every senior in Wythe County to have access to information and resources that can help protect them. Confirm OK has always been about looking out for our seniors, and PAUSE takes that a step further. If you encounter a scam, report it. Your report could help protect someone else in our community.”
