WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) – One of Texas’s previously most wanted sex offenders is in custody after investigators learned he was living near a public school in Westlake.
Spencer Giron, 49, a registered sex offender in Texas, was approaching children and offering them money to go shopping in Westlake, police said. Giron had an outstanding warrant from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to register as a sex offender.
Investigators discovered Giron was living less than 1,000 feet from a public school in Westlake and had again failed to register, police said.
Giron faces the following counts:
- Unlawful presence of a sex offender
- Failure to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator
- Second-offense failure to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.
Giron was previously listed as one of Texas’s 10 most wanted sex offenders, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. In June 2025, authorities in Jefferson County issued a warrant for his arrest on a count of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. He was captured in Lake Charles on Oct. 8, 2025.
According to the Texas DPS, Giron’s offenses date back to 1998, when he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison. In 2017, he was convicted on a federal count of possession of dangerous drugs and sentenced to four years in federal prison.
Giron is held at the Calcasieu Parish Jail on a $600,000 bond.
