Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled new rules for social media companies to be in compliance with the SAFE for Kids Act, which is set to go into effect in January.
The legislation will require companies to ban addictive algorithms and restrict nighttime notifications for users under 18, among other rules. State officials hope the law will help address mental health struggles among younger New Yorkers.
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes, one of the sponsors of the bill, joined “The Rush Hour” to talk about the legislation.
