The U.S. Attorney’s Office will present a fraud prevention seminar in Godfrey next week. The presentation highlights information on online scams, fraud schemes targeting seniors and details on federal cases prosecuted in the Southern District of Illinois.

Zoe Gross, with the office says the plan is to educate seniors in southern Illinois on the latest scams targeting them online and over the phone. Gross tells The Big Z one of the most prevalent scams circulating right now is the Government Imposter scam:

At that point they will try to convince their target to send them their money in order to “protect” it, and ask for wire transfers, bitcoin, or even gold be sent to them. The event will start at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11 at Godfrey Baptist Church, located at 1601 W. Delmar Avenue. The event is free and open to the public, but seating space is limited.  Call the church at 618-466-2633 to RSVP.
