ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Ameren Illinois is educating seniors on how to recognize utility scams.
Older adults are the age group most targeted by scammers. Ameren visited with seniors at the Cahokia Heights Community Center, alerting them to the most common red flags.
Ameren Illinois says the most common scams are utility scams and fraud attempts. These schemes also spike during the severe weather season.
Friday’s event also helped seniors find ways to save on their energy bills and showed them how to build an emergency preparedness kit
