Roblox Grooming Lawsuit Alleges Defective Platform Exposed Child to Sexual Predator | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

Roblox Grooming Lawsuit

According to the complaint, Roblox publicly portrayed its platform as a safe digital environment for children while allegedly concealing longstanding knowledge that predators were using the service to identify, groom and sexually exploit minors.

The lawsuit claims Roblox’s design allowed predators to build relationships with children through games, chat features and virtual interactions before encouraging communications to move to other platforms and, eventually, in-person meetings.

LLF-0001 further alleges Roblox’s virtual currency system, Robux, was frequently used by predators to manipulate, coerce or extort children into providing sexually explicit images and other content.

The filing indicates Roblox had long been aware of reports involving predators using the platform to target children but failed to implement reasonable safety measures that could have reduced those risks.

It also cites numerous publicly reported incidents over the last decade involving children who allegedly met predators through Roblox before being subjected to sexual exploitation, sextortion, trafficking or sexual assault.

“Far from creating a safe place for children, Roblox designed, built, and maintains a toxic environment that has enabled obscene material to flourish and, worse, enables predatory pedophiles to hunt, groom, and sexually exploit children.”

LLF-0001 v. Roblox Corporation

The lawsuit contends Roblox could have implemented stronger age verification, parental controls, monitoring systems and other safeguards, but instead continued emphasizing user growth while publicly assuring families the platform prioritized child safety.

LLF-0001 raises allegations of fraudulent concealment and misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, negligence, failure to warn, unreasonable design, negligent undertaking and design defect. She seeks damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and medical expenses.

Roblox Sexual Exploitation Lawsuits

The complaint will join a group of more than 180 Roblox child sexual exploitation lawsuits pending before U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg in the Northern District of California, where the cases have been centralized for coordinated pretrial proceedings.

Judge Seeborg is expected to establish a bellwether program in which a handful of representative lawsuits will proceed to early trial. Although those verdicts will not determine the outcome of other claims, they are intended to help both sides evaluate how juries may respond to common evidence and legal issues presented throughout the litigation.

The court also appointed a special master earlier this year to oversee preliminary settlement discussions. If those negotiations prove successful, many of the pending lawsuits could be resolved without the need for individual trials.

If the parties are unable to reach a broader settlement through the bellwether process or negotiations, the remaining federal cases could ultimately be remanded to the courts where they were originally filed for separate trial proceedings.

Roblox sexual exploitation lawyers handle all claims on a contingency fee basis, meaning families pay no attorney fees or litigation expenses unless compensation is recovered through a settlement or trial verdict.
