Ford is once again in the spotlight for a recall in this country. The automaker has announced a massive recall of more than 27,000 model year 2025 Ford Bronco vehicles. Why? A critical failure in the rear left child safety lock. This mechanism is designed to prevent children from opening the doors from the inside… but in this vehicle, it might not activate properly.
It’s yet another recall adding to the long list Ford has had in recent years, and we have to admit, it hasn’t been the best time for the American brand. With this latest issue, Ford acknowledges that the door could be opened from the inside even when the child safety lock is engaged. Terrible…
Which vehicles are being recalled?
The 2025 Ford Bronco, and approximately 27,000 units in total.
Why are they being recalled?
All cars have a lock on the rear doors, known as a child safety lock, which is meant to prevent children riding in the back seats from opening the door (and possibly falling out or causing an accident).
In this case, the rear door on the left side of the vehicle is not functioning correctly. When the safety lock is activated, it should block the inner latch to make it impossible to open the door from the inside, but that’s not happening with these Broncos.
It might not seem like a major issue, but it does compromise passenger safety, especially for children. That’s why Ford has taken action as soon as possible.
What is Ford going to do?
The first step after issuing the recall has been to notify owners that affected vehicles will be inspected at no cost, and Ford technicians will replace the faulty part (the rear door latch) immediately. This will take place at official Ford dealerships nationwide.
The first notification letters were supposed to go out on June 23. These letters explain how to proceed, where to take the vehicle, and which documents to bring, so don’t worry.
But if you haven’t received the notice, you can contact Ford Customer Service directly at 1-866-436-7332 or reach out to the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 for more information about the recall.
Another recall in less than four months
Back in March, the brand already faced a recall of over 56,000 vehicles due to an issue with the rearview camera that failed to display the image properly. The company’s reputation is shaking more and more…
What should owners do?
If you own one of these vehicles, the best thing to do is check your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the official NHTSA website. If your vehicle is affected, call your official dealership or nearest Ford service centre to have it inspected and fixed, no hassle!
Safety first?
Clearly, this type of failure highlights the need for more thorough inspections before new vehicles hit the market.
And while Ford has responded quickly, the situation shows how a small technical oversight can have serious consequences if not caught in time.
It’s a clear and efficient response, and although no incidents have been reported (thankfully), we should be aware that Ford values safety and is committed to keeping us safe on board their vehicles. Even if that means putting their reputation at risk, recall after recall…
