GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Adam Michael Nick, 31, was arrested yesterday for allegedly choking and battering his girlfriend; officers also noted that he is a transient registered Sexual Predator who uses GRACE Marketplace as his address and is required to check in at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office every 30 days but has not done so since November 2025.
At about 5:06 a.m. on September 29, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to the Circle K at 3838 N. Main Street, where the victim said Nick had gotten angry with her because she had not bought breakfast for him from the convenience store. She said that when she tried to get out of the car, Nick pinned her head against the car window; when she got out, he allegedly followed her and placed her in a chokehold, restricting her breathing. She said that as she struggled to free herself and Nick repositioned himself, her lip was injured.
A witness reportedly saw Nick holding the victim in a chokehold and attempted to help the victim; when he approached and Nick became aware that law enforcement had been called, Nick reportedly fell to the ground and said he was having a seizure.
Nick was reportedly treated at the scene by EMS but was not transported to a hospital.
The victim reportedly told an officer that she and Nick had been together for about a month and had been living in his car.
The officer noted that Nick is a registered Sexual Predator who has been convicted of sexual battery of a victim under the age of 12; Nick is registered as a “transient” with GRACE Marketplace as his address, and transients are required to appear at ASO in person every 30 days, but Nick had not checked in since November 17, 2025.
Nick has been charged with domestic battery by strangulation, domestic battery, and two charges for failing to report as a sexual offender. He has four felony convictions (one sexual offense) and three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), all out of Alachua County, and he has served five state prison sentences, with his most recent release in August 2025. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $185,000.
