AUGUSTA, Wis. (WEAU) – Phishing scams target and hurt the most vulnerable in our communities, including the elderly. That’s why Spectrum and United Way Greater Chippewa Valley partnered to equip seniors and veterans to recognize online scams.
A $20,000 digital education grant will help United Way conduct digital literacy classes. The course will help seniors protect sensitive information online, identify suspicious messages and create secure passwords.
“So, the class that I taught today, internet safety, that is primarily for that security. I want to individuals, especially our seniors, to understand that when they go on the internet, it’s not all bad,” said Dr. Stacey Martin, PHD, Director of Digital Access and Engagement of United Way Greater Chippewa Valley.
United Way also offers seniors an introduction to AI and classes on how to use smartphones safely.
