Thomasville City Schools strengthens school safety through specialized staff training

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville City Schools continues its commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness through ongoing training designed to equip staff members with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in an emergency.
On September 3, teachers, staff members, School Resource Officers, coaches, and other district personnel participated in a full day of specialized school safety training led by Kaleb White, Law Enforcement Officer with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS).
The training included four areas of focus: Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE), Stop the Bleed, De-escalation in Schools, and Visual Weapons Training.
Throughout the day, participants received hands-on instruction and information focused on emergency response, preparedness, de-escalation, and life-saving skills. The training provided staff with additional tools and knowledge to help them respond appropriately in a variety of emergency situations.
“Keeping our students and staff safe requires preparation, strong partnerships, and a willingness to continually learn and train,” said Dr. Scott Sweeting, Superintendent of Thomasville City Schools. “We are grateful to GEMA/HS and our local partners for working alongside us as we continue strengthening our safety practices throughout the district.”
The training is part of Thomasville City Schools’ broader approach to school safety, which includes collaboration among district personnel, School Resource Officers, law enforcement, emergency responders, and other safety partners.
Thomasville City Schools also extends its appreciation to community members and businesses who supported staff members participating in the daylong training. Hank Crane, Attorney at Law, and his wife, Janna, provided snacks for participants, while Chick-fil-A and Von Hellens & Partners provided lunch.
“School safety is truly a team effort,” Sweeting added. “We appreciate our employees who took part in this important training and the community partners who continue to support our schools.”
