The Beaumont City Council will consider several items Tuesday, including whether to approve the issuance of $11.69 million in certificates of obligation.
Because the meeting packet has not been released, it is unclear how the city would spend the money. The council also will receive a presentation from the Beaumont Main Street Program and hold a work session on the downtown proactive code enforcement program.
The council also will elect a new mayor pro tem and vote on establishing child safety zones. The zones would restrict people required to register as sex offenders from living near places where children gather within Beaumont city limits.
The council will hold two public hearings. The first would consider declaring a property at 2450 W. Lucas Drive a public health nuisance. Google Maps identifies the property as Jefferson Homes Apartments. If the property is declared a nuisance, the health department could abate it if the owners do not do so within 10 days.
The second public hearing will focus on the city’s submission of a grant application and execution of a contract with the Federal Transit Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation for operating assistance for BMT Zip, the city’s transit system.
